Vocal harmonics create a sonic rainbow bridge — a pathway for healing intent to travel upon and affect the body. I've practiced these for over 25 years. I preferred the western-style of making these sounds on open vowels. My first inspiration for this was hearing 'Rainbow Voice' by David Hykes back in 1990. Early teachers were Jonathan Goldman, sound healing practitioners around Sydney during the early 2000s. I later further developed this with the help of my MAP and Professional MAP teams (Perelandra).
These cymatic videos, created by John Stuart Reid using his Cymascope, visualise the subtle geometric patterns formed by different vocal harmonics on the same note.
Cymascope Research
In 2024 I commissioned these videos of my voice imaged by John Stuart Reid through his Cymascope (left).
They compare the subtle differences of different vocal harmonics on the same note, on five different sustained pitches. I wanted to see what effect different vowel harmonics had on the shape of the soundwave, given that these sound bubbles vibrate matter — how the nodes changed shape with the harmonics/overtone emphasis changing.
We know intent is a huge part of how the sound impacts us also, but I wanted to actually visually see how the different harmonics change the vibratory impact of the sound.
To my knowledge this has never been investigated before; John Stuart Reid called it 'ground-breaking' research during the imaging process.
